BioBilly got his first introduction to the darker side of Sunnydale when he was 12. Following a little league game which his team lost, he was subject to a brutal assault by the team coach which left him in a coma. The coma transferred his normal life into one of nightmares, nightmares which leached over into the real world, meaning that the nightmares of many of the Sunnydale residents became real and walked. With the help of the newly formed Scoobie gang, Billy woke from his coma and the nightmares stopped.
At least, they stopped for everybody else. Billy wasn't so lucky. The next four years of his life were a living hell as he discovered that he could not rid himself of the dreams and nightmares which haunted him. Whilst it was true that he no longer caused his or others nightmares to become real, he still found himself walking others dreams and night and trapped in their nightmares. Sleep was lost to him as he these 'dreamwalks' allowed him no real rest and the fear of being forever trapped in another's nightmares caused insomnia.
He looked everywhere for help and assistance, finding no solution in the established medical world, whose only reaction was to attempt to declare him insane. Turning instead to alternative therapies, he found a series of mediations which, when done immediately before sleep, would block out the dreams and allow him to enjoy restful, thankfully empty, sleep.
